PUNTO NARANJA ARTIST RESIDENCY
Havana, Cuba | November 2024
The residency took place within an assisted living facility on the outskirts of Havana, where I lived and worked alongside residents, staff, and participating artists. Art-making developed through daily interaction—shared time, conversation, and exploration of the surrounding land, crops, wild plants, and locally available materials.
These encounters shaped the work as it developed, allowing stories of the place to emerge through personal experiences and shared narratives. The process centered presence, exchange, experimentation, and learning from one another within a temporary, interdependent community.
Participating artists: Jaime Permuth (Guatemala/South Korea); Guillermina Bustos (Argentina/Brazil); Natasha Forcade, Osmany Bonet, and Adrian Lamela Argones (Cuba), collaborating as Cosecha de Luz; and Rosa Naday Garmendia Reyes (Cuba/United States).

Homenaje a Punto Naranja emerged from my experience during the Punto Naranja Artist Residency. The resulting body of work consists of 27 relief and letterpress works on wood panels, developed in response to the people, conversations, environment, and experiences encountered during the residency.
The work was subsequently presented in Expansión 15, an exhibition marking the closing of the 15th Havana Biennial at the Wifredo Lam Center for Contemporary Art. The exhibition brought forward creative outcomes from the social-engagement project developed in partnership with the Quisicuaba Association and the Punto Naranja living facilities.
This separation makes the progression very clear on your website: first, the lived experience and process; then, the artwork that grew out of that experience.
