Expansión 15 I 15 Bienal de La Habana Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Wifredo Lam / Wifredo Lam Centre for Contemporary Art
Expansión 15 is an exhibition that marks the closing of the 15th Havana Biennial, featuring a selection of artworks that extend and reflect the themes explored throughout the recent edition. The exhibition also foregrounds the creative outcomes of a special artist residency developed in partnership with the Quisicuaba Association at the Punto Naranja Camp.
The works emerged from a residency embedded within an assisted living facility on the outskirts of Havana, where the artist lived and worked alongside residents and staff. Art-making unfolded through daily interaction—shared time, conversation, and collective exploration of the surrounding environment, including the land, crops, wild plants, and locally available materials. These relationships and conditions shaped the work as it developed, allowing the stories of the place to surface through personal encounters and shared narratives. The process prioritized presence and exchange, emphasizing individual expression while fostering playful experimentation within a temporary, interdependent community.
