This mixed-media work on paper is one of ten in the Forbidden Pages Collection, which draws inspiration from Lesa Clive-Ransome's Before She Was Harriet. This book holds the distinction of being the second book on Duval County's list of 176 banned books from school libraries. Before She Was Harriet begins with an elderly Harriet Tubman on a train and tells her life story chronologically in reverse, aimed at an audience of 4 to 8-year-olds.

The book centers around a central theme, focusing on the remarkable figure of Harriet Tubman, known by various names throughout her life. Through a dynamic interplay of diverse names, clues linked to International Standard Book Numbers (ISBN) and their corresponding barcodes, and vibrant geometric shapes, this work on paper pays tribute to Tubman's journey from humble beginnings to legendary hero. It showcases her extraordinary bravery and boundless compassion, highlighting her enduring legacy.

Forbidden Pages aims to ignite curiosity and promote critical thinking. By blending art with dialogue, it invites reflection on the growing restrictions and limited access to diverse literature in Florida's schools. This initiative highlights censorship issues and celebrates human resilience through art.
