Contain/Resist, 2025, Installation includes 15 letterpress prints Dimensions variable

Contain / Resist presents a densely packed, shrink-wrapped cargo pallet bound in black netting, evoking global systems of transport, containment, and control. Affixed to the surface are hand-printed posters created through relief and letterpress techniques—messages that speak to migration, displacement, political struggle, and collective resilience.

By juxtaposing the aesthetics of industrial shipping with the intimacy and immediacy of printmaking, the installation highlights the tension between mobility and restriction, visibility and erasure. The crate becomes both vessel and barrier: a metaphor for the bodies, stories, and communities caught within geopolitical forces that seek to classify, confine, or silence them.

Contain / Resist asserts printmaking as an act of agency and solidarity—an insistence that resistance can be carried, circulated, and made public, wherever people gather. In the context of tightening U.S. immigration policies affecting TPS holders, asylum seekers, and parolees, the installation asks: What are we carrying? What refuses to be contained?

Presented as part of The Container Project, a DVCAI curatorial initiative at Barry University’s Monsignor William Barry Library, the exhibition runs November 20, 2025 – April 17, 2026. Curated by Rosie Gordon-Wallace and Breeana Thorne, the project invites audiences to consider the question: What’s in Your Container?
